so, we've been getting hit hard with theft at work lately. i mean, people are always stealing from every store, but it's been really bad these last few months. one of the more obvious targets are any sort of collectible miniature we stock, such as heroclix. it's especially frustrating, because kids don't just steal the whole fucking package, they slit them open along the side with a razor and pick out the one or two that they want, so we find the remnants stashed all over the fucking place.
y'know, if i worked in a grocery store, and i saw some opened packages with missing food items, it'd be one thing, but these ain't grapes, and these kids aren't starving, ya' dig?
anyhow, i'd just had enough of it today, and i took it upon myself to consolidate all of our music boxed sets into two shelves of the locked case, and leave the rest of that one case empty. then, i went to my service manager, and i was like "we should just do it. that way, it's just done. if someone above us wants to put the kibosh on it, and tell us to take them back out, that's all on them. this way, it's fixed, and it'll take more work to make ourselves more vulnerable..." and she was like "yeah. do it. fuckin' a."
so, i guess that kind of makes me a hawkish dick, but i felt REALLY satisfied with myself as i was placing all these items behind lock and key. for the first time, i was cognizant of my ability to take charge of a situation, and help guard not only myself, but the livelihoods of my co-workers.
i'm still not sure if this means that i'm a total corporate tool, or if i'm just doing right by my associates, though.
thoughts?
